Impact of COVID-19 on telecommunications networks

Burst viewing of television series, online video games, exchanges of all kinds – texts, photos and video – by social media, teleworking: Internet consumption at home has exploded. It all started on March 14 when Prime Minister François Legault declared a state of health emergency. Overnight, an unknown phenomenon appeared in the Canadian telephone: communication problems. The phone number must be dialed several times before you hear the dial tone. A recorded voice replies that your correspondent is “not available”. Or quite simply, the line is busy. Clearly, the coronavirus crisis has caused problems with the capacity of the telephone network. To know more listen to Jean-Guy Rens’ column on Radio VM dated April 27, 2020.
