The West’s failed struggle

Here is the written equivalent of Monday’s radio column. My thesis is that Western values ​​based on individual freedom without a collective dimension have run out of steam. The current global crisis triggered by the coronavirus has highlighted the Confucian value system which wants freedom to end where my responsibility begins – collective value par excellence. All the countries that have stopped the pandemic are of Confucian tradition (China, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore). No, definitely, we will not come out of this crisis unscathed. The axis of the world will have slipped from the hands of the West. To know more, read “The Missed Struggle of the West” published in the daily Le Devoir on April 1, 2020.
